The Midland district dominated in August when it came to drilling permits, new oil completions and new gas completions, according to the Railroad Commission of Texas.
The RRC reported the region – 8 – accounted for 55.9 percent of the 377 drilling permits in the state. The 211 in the Midland district was 176 more than the North Texas district. The number of drilling permits continued the trend of rising permit totals in the region. In July, that total was 169, up from 122 in May and 157 in June.
Across the state, the number of new permits rose from208 in May to 262 in June and from 286 in July to 377 in August.
The Midland district also accounted for 63.9 percent of the 922 new oil completions, according to the RRC. The district’s 590 completions were 473 more than the San Antonio area district. The 102 new gas completions were 58.9 percent of the 173 new gas completions around the state.
